Background

Since 1967, The Fund for American Studies (TFAS) has partnered with Georgetown University to educate young leaders on the values of freedom, democracy and free-market economies. TFAS’ program in Hong Kong, the Asia Institute for Political Economy (AIPE) brings together students from around Asia and the U.S. to take courses in economics and American Studies at The University of Hong Kong. This program provides young scholars with a unique experience for both academic and cross-cultural exchange.

Purpose

The Fundamentals of Freedom: Asia Essay Contest was created to further engage the next generation of leaders in Asia on the ideas of freedom. Contestants must be citizens of one of the countries identified on the website. However participants need not be alumni of The Fund for American Studies and do not have to be currently enrolled as a student.
