ADMISSIONSAdmissions Policies
The Institute seeks university students who have demonstrated leadership potential
and a commitment to political and economic liberty, regional cooperation and cultural
exchange. Students must be currently enrolled at a university in either an undergraduate
or graduate program of study.
To be eligible to attend the institute, students must a citizen of one of the
following countries: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia,
Cyprus, Egypt, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Greece, Israel, Italy,
Jordan, Lebanon, Malta, the Palestinian Authority, Romania, Serbia, Montenegro,
Syria, Tunisa, Turkey, or the United States of America. Priority for
American students will be given to those who attended one of The Fund's five Institutes
in the United States.
Admissions decisions are made on a rolling basis - applications are reviewed as
they are received. Applications will not be reviewed until all application requirements
are submitted. The application process is competitive, and students are encouraged
to apply early. Applications received by the early admission deadline of January
31, 2007 will receive preference in admission and scholarship decisions. Final
deadline is March 15, 2007. Application materials received after the final deadline
will not be accepted. Email attachments of application materials will
NOT be accepted.
Students admitted to the program are expected to participate fully, which means
attending all classes and lectures as well as spending time getting to know students
from other countries. Individuals not enrolled in the program may not attend Institute
events or stay in accommodations assigned by The Fund for American Studies. The
Institute discourages long-distance travel and visits by friends or relatives
during the program. As the Institute is very intense, the program will occupy
all of the participants' time.
Students admitted to the program who are unable to attend the Institute are not
guaranteed a place in the program the following year. Students who reapply may
use previously submitted references. All other material, however, should be resubmitted
with appropriate updates.
Courses are conducted in English; therefore, proficiency in English is required
for non-native English speakers. Admissions decisions are based upon academic
record, extracurricular achievements, leadership qualities, work experience, and
English language ability. |
