The first year’s ILA program was opened by the former Prime Minister of Spain, Jose Maria Aznar, along with Chile's new President, Sebastian Pinera. President Pinera's brother, Jose Pinera, the architect of Chile’s highly successful personal pension system, has spoken the last two years at ILA. Professors Brad Thompson of Clemson University and Ari Eisen of Catholic University taught political philosophy and economics respectively. Past professors have included Dr. Rolf Luders, one of the most prominent economists in Latin America, who recounted the implementation of the economic model that remains in place today and fuels the ever-growing Chilean economy.
