Last year’s ILA program included classes in the congress at the beautiful port city of Valparaiso, where ILA students were welcomed by lawmakers during a live session of the Chilean Chamber of Deputies.
The 2010 ILA program coincided with the presidential election, and students held a question and answer session with Jose Pinera, the brother of the recently elected president and the architect of Chile’s highly successful personal pension system. Professor Brad Thompson of Clemson University involved students in the moral foundations of the free enterprise system, and the philosophy of representative government and the institutions required to support it. Rodrigo Flores and Ari Aisen, both of Catholic University, recounted the implementation of the Chilean economic model that remains in place today and fuels the ever-growing Chilean economy.
