Overview

ILA class
Susette Espana, a graduate of Universidad Francisco Marroquin, asks a question of Professor Rolf Luders during a class discussion.

ILA 2012 will be held at University of the Andes, and will also include a visit to the Chilean congress at the beautiful port city of Valparaiso, where ILA students will be welcomed by lawmakers during a live session of the Chilean Chamber of Deputies.

Again this year, students will experience a presentation and question and answer session with Jose Pinera, the brother of the Chilean president, who was the architect of Chile’s highly successful personal pension system that is being copied by countries throughout the world.

Professor Brad Thompson of Clemson University is returning for his third year at ILA. Dr. Thompson's lectures will involve students in the study of the moral foundations of the free enterprise system, and the philosophy of representative government and the institutions required to support it. Dr. Aldo van Weezel and Dr. Juan Ignacio Brito, both of the University of the Andes, will teach the history and structure of the Chilean economic model that remains in place today and fuels the exemplary Chilean economy.
