Applying Procedure

To be considered for admission, all applicants must submit the Online Application Form and the remaining application requirements listed below via our online application system Apply Yourself. Applicants may also choose to send by mail or fax application materials. All application materials must be received by the application deadlines. All faxes must have a cover page with the student's name listed on each page. The Fund for American Studies is not responsible for incomplete applications. Application materials that do not meet the requirements listed below will not be accepted. Material received after the application deadline will not be accepted. Do not send attachments by email.
- One letter of recommendation from a professor or Dean: Letters should be a maximum of one page, typed on letterhead and have the name, address, telephone number, email (if available) and signature of the author. All recommendations are subject to verification.
- An official transcript in English: From your home university indicating the courses you have taken and the grades you received in each course. The transcript must be stamped with an official seal. If there is a translation with the transcript, it must include the seal or signature of the official translator. Graduate students (Master's or PhD degrees) must include their undergraduate transcripts.
- Resume or curriculum vitae: Typed, one-page document outlining work, academic, and leadership experience. A resume or CV must be in an outline format with at least the following headings: Education, Work Experience, and Activities. Click here to download and view a sample resume in proper format.
- A typed statement of purpose not to exceed 500 words stating your career goals and how the Institute will enhance your personal and
professional skills in achieving these goals.
- Analytical Essay: All applicants must prove their analytical and writing skills by reading an essay provided in the application and then answer the question provided. The maximum length to the essay is 750 words.
- Proof of English Proficiency: If you are a non-native English speaker but you attend or have attended an English speaking university, please check the box on the application that says "English Speaking University." For all other non-native speakers of English, you must provide at least one of the following three items:
- TOEFL or IELTS Score: (Please enclose a copy of the Examinee's Score Record.)
- Official certificate of English proficiency.
- Letter from an English professor stating your level of spoken and written English, including that person's ability to verify your English proficiency. This letter must include the name, address and telephone number of the person writing the letter.
