Who we are...

Ms. Michelle (Jeffress) Le
Director of International Programs

Michelle (Jeffress) Le is a two-time alumna of The Fund for American Studies. She attended the Institute on Political Journalism in 1995, interning with the Military District of Washington as a staff reporter. The following year, she participated in the American Institute on Political and Economic Systems in Prague. In 1997 she returned to TFAS again, this time, serving as a program assistant for the international programs. In 1998 she joined the TFAS staff full time. Le currently works as the director of international programs for TFAS.

Le is originally from Independence, Mo. She earned her bachelor's degree summa cum laude in political science with minors in history and French, from Missouri State University. She completed her master's degree in international economics and European studies at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies. She spent her first year of graduate school overseas in Italy, studying at the SAIS Bologna Center.

During her undergraduate and graduate studies, she completed a foreign policy internship in the office of John Ashcroft, then U.S. Senator of Missouri, as well as a print media internship with Inside Report, Evans & Novak. Le also worked as a political researcher for a member of the government in the British Parliament in London, United Kingdom.

 

Mr. Matt Kwasiborski

Matthew Kwasiborski joined The Fund for American Studies in the February of 2005. He has directed The American Institute on Political and Economic Systems (AIPES) since 2005, and in 2009 began directing the International Institute for Political and Economic Studies (IIPES).

Kwasiborski is a native Philadelphian. He earned a bachelor's degree in history at Loyola University in New Orleans, La. and a master's degree in executive leadership from the Thierry Graduate School of Leadership in Belgium.

Prior to his position at TFAS, Kwasiborski taught English as a second language (ESL) and served as a tutor in Hungary where he wrote and directed the play, A Dawn of a New Era. He was an administrator for a summer in Switzerland program located at the Leysin American School in Switzerland where he served international high school students.

In addition, Kwasiborski previously taught world religions, Christian vocations, morality, computers and served as a basketball coach for Mount Carmel Academy in New Orleans, La. From 2001 to 2004, he served as director of the Loyola University Big Brothers/Big Sisters of America program in New Orleans and worked directly for the president of Loyola University.

In 2004, Kwasiborski was honored with a nomination for the Leon J. Obermayer Award, which is given to an outstanding alumnus of the School District of Philadelphia.

 

Ms. Kelsey Strampe
Manager of the Asia Institute for Political Economy

Kelsey Strampe joined The Fund for American Studies in March 2008 as manager of the Asia Institute for Political Economy. Prior to joining TFAS, she was as a program officer and congressional liaison with the U.S.-China Policy Foundation, a small nonprofit organization in Washington, D.C. focusing on U.S.-China relations.

Originally from Minnesota, Strampe received her B.A. in Chinese and political science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and received her master's degree in international affairs with an emphasis on East Asia from American University. She spent two years living, working and studying in China, including a year of Chinese language study at Peking University in Beijing.

 

Mr. Jon Perdue
Director of Latin America Programs

Jon Perdue came to TFAS in 2008 as the director of Latin America Programs and the Institute for Leadership in the Americas in Santiago, Chile. Perdue began working in Latin America in the 1990s as a consultant to U.S. companies working in the region, and to U.S. and Latin American think tanks. Perdue's articles have been published nationally and internationally, in both English and Spanish. His work can be seen in Investors Business Daily, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Journal of International Security Affairs, among others, as well as various newspapers in Latin America.

Perdue serves on the Board of Advisors of the Chilean think tank Instituto Democracia y Mercado, and on the Policy and Economics Council of the Gerson Lehrman Group of New York. He received the International Young Leader Award in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 2009 and the Global Leadership Award in London, England in 2010.

Perdue is a native of Georgia, where he graduated from North Georgia Military College and State University with a degree in Finance.

 

Ms. Brigit Moore
International Programs Assistant

Brigit Moore is the international programs assistant. Born and raised in Washington, D.C., Moore graduated from Northwestern University in 2007 with her bachelor's degree in political science and international studies, and is currently working on her Master's Degree from American University in International Peace and Conflict Resolution.

As an undergraduate, she volunteered with her local Habitat for Humanity Chapter and indulged her love for travel by spending a semester at the Universidad de Sevilla in Seville, Spain. She is fluent in Spanish and has spent time traveling to other locations around the globe such as South America, Europe and Africa.
